Charbel: The ISF should regain unanimous trust of all Lebanese

Caretaker Interior Minister Marwan Charbel held a press conference on Tuesday after visiting the Internal Security Forces general-directorate whereby he expressed hope that the institution would regain the unanimous trust of all Lebanese citizens.

“We can only hope for unity, away from the shadow of sectarianism and politics, to serve the common interest of all the Lebanese people,” he said.

On the formation of a government, Charbel said that a formula should be devised to suit the needs of all Lebanese parties in the country, adding that he would determine the time needed for the preparations of the elections upon the provision of a consensual electoral law.

“If the hybrid draft-law were adopted, then the ministry will need 6 months to prepare for the elections,” Charbel said.

On security, the caretaker Minister of Interior said that the army is playing a major role in preserving national security.

Finally, on the nine Lebanese pilgrims held hostage in Syria’s Aazaz, Charbel said that the political circumstances hindered the process undertaken to free the 9 Lebanese, "stressing that they, however, have not been abandoned".
