Syrian ambassador to Lebanon: Syria victim to armed assaults

         
The Syrian ambassador to Lebanon Ali Abdel Karim Ali stressed on Wednesday that he did not receive a protest letter from the Lebanese Foreign Ministry, pointing out that "Syria is the country which has fallen victim to gunmen's assaults from the Lebanese border".            

"Some Lebanese went to Syria in order to take part in the killing of Syrian nationals," Ali said.          

Following a meeting with Lebanese Caretaker Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour, the Syrian Ambassador said that Lebanon should call on security apparatuses to control borders with Syria and prevent the sheltering of gunmen.          

Separately, Ali denied that Lebanese political detainees remain in Syrian jails, adding that Syria is adamant on upholding friendly ties with Lebanon.           

On another note, Ambassador Ali slammed the actions undertaken by the Arab League, noting that "the League has contradicted itself when it paved the way for some States to provide terrorists in Syria with weapons", adding that "the League no longer legitimate."           

In a question directed at Ali over whether the amnesty issued by the Syrian President Bachar Assad will include the Lebanese detainees and the disappeared in Syria, the ambassador said that Syria has always been clear in regards to the file of the Lebanese detainees in Syrian jails, adding that "all rumors in this context are merely assumptions."
