The helicopters purchased to fight fires remained parked useless for lack of maintenance, making them not fit to fulfill their purpose, while the government continues to use the pretext of “no capabilities and no money.”
It is true that the Lebanese government cannot find money and capabilities for anything that serves the citizens’ interests, but can find plenty of money and capabilities for shared deals and contracts.
For example, the state paid $500,000 in one night for the Alfa gala dinner, according to Telecom Minister Mohammad Choucair; $20 million were paid by the former minister as sponsorship for various associations.
The Lebanese state pays hundreds of millions of USD to rent buildings housing public administrations and ministries and the list goes on.
