Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs: We hope that government formation would be quick

Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed on Tuesday the holding of the presidential elections after a two-and-a-half-year vacuum.

In a statement, the Turkish ministry stressed the importance of reconciliation between the various political powers in order to put an end for the political crisis.

The statement also voiced hopes that the formation a new government would be quick, and to activate the state’s institutions in order to serve the interests of the Lebanese people.

“Turkey will continue to support Lebanon’s stability and security,” the statement concluded by saying.

On Monday, Lebanon's lawmakers elected founder of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun as a president after a longtime vacuum that has been ravaging Lebanon since May 2014 when the mandate of the president ended without the election of a successor.

Binding parliamentary consultations for the designation of a new Prime Minister have been scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday.
