Most people use weed, cocaine, and meth are as the go-to drugs to get high. However, aside from these illegal drugs, there are everyday foods that can potentially get you high without the drugs.

10. Coffee

A study showed that people who drink more than 7 cups of coffee per day start to hallucinate, like hearing imaginary voices and sensing the presence of dead people.

Chocolate contains anandamide, which is similar to the compounds released when cannabis is taken. A 59 kg person would have to eat around 11.3 kg of chocolate to get high.

8. Mulberries

Eating large amounts of the unripe fruit can cause hallucinations; they can also cause stomachache and have laxative properties.

7. Stilton

A study by the British Cheese Board found that eating 20g of stilton before bed caused bizarre dreams. Dreams included talking soft toys and dinner party guests being traded for camels.

The chemical capsaicinoids found in hot chili react with your taste buds. The body defends itself against the heat of hot chili by releasing endorphins, leaving you high.

Some species of mushrooms contain the psychedelic drugs psilocybin and psilocin. They distort the perception of objects, while feelings and emotions intensify.

Poppy seeds contain enough opium alkaloids, morphine and codeine to cause you to fail a drug test. You would have to eat an estimated 40g of poppy seeds to achieve medically relevant dose of morphine (10 ml).

Eating the head of this fish can cause days of auditory and visual hallucinations. The fish heads were eaten as a recreational drug during the Roman Empire.

Rye can become infected with the ergot fungus which contains psychoactive chemical ergotamine. This is the cause of the medical condition, ergotism, aka St. Anthony’s Fire, which causes hallucinations and convulsions.

1. Nutmeg
