Jumblatt says Lebanese army must be politically covered

The head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt denounced Friday the kidnapping of the nuns of Syria’s Maaloula Monastery, noting that “these factions” are committing acts similar to the ones of the regime and tarnishing the goals of the revolution.

In this context, Jumblatt called for the release of the nuns who do not follow any political views, but only performs their religious obligations in the ancient and historic town of Maaloula.

On the Lebanese situation, Jumblatt stressed the need to provide the Lebanese Armed Forces with the necessary political cover from all the officials, in order to be able to perform its duties and restore calm, security and stability.

“The military institution is continuously proving that it protects all the Lebanese people without any discrimination, but the responsibility rests with the components of the Lebanese political community who must turn words into actions,” he said.
