Future bloc MP Khaled al-Daher called on Prime Minister Tammam Salam, Interior Minister Nouhad al-Mashnouq and Justice Minister Ashraf Rifi to resign in order to "maintain their dignity," noting that the security plan and the security apparatuses are not protecting Lebanon's northern city of Tripoli.
In a statement to LBCI’s
Nharkom Said, al-Daher said that the Lebanese Armed Forces Commander General Jean Kahwaji is seeking to become president at the expense of the lives of the residents of Tripoli.
He vowed that should the current incidents and plots against the Sunnis continue, Lebanon will witness the same events as the ones taking place in Iraq’s Mosul.
“I swear that Mosul’s events will take place in Lebanon, and I am responsible for my statement,” he said.
ISIL insurgents overran northern Iraq's biggest city of Mosul almost two weeks ago, leading non-Sunnis to flee in fear of their lives. The militants known for their extremist views have since destroyed what they dub "pagan shrines", banning tobacco, drugs and alcohol and demanding that all women dress modestly and stay at home. Nearly all of Mosul's Christians have since fled the city.
On a separate note, the deputy revealed that detained former Minister Michel Samaha is currently held at a “private suite, while the dignity of the Sunni detainees in jails is being insulted."
Former Minister
Michel Samaha was arrested on Thursday 9th of August by the Internal Security Forces’ Information Branch on suspicion of involvement in a plot to carry out terrorist attacks in Lebanon in collaboration with Syria.
He was charged by the government’s deputy commissioner at the Military Tribunal on 11th of August 2012, alongside Syrian National Security Bureau head Ali Mamlouk and a Syrian army officer identified as Brig. Gen. Adnan with plotting to assassinate political and religious figures in Lebanon and carrying out terrorist attacks.
Gladis Samaha, the wife of former Minister Michel Samaha responded by praising the Lebanese judicial system and stressing that her husband is at the very least "not a murderer".
"My husband’s hands are not bloodstained...he in no way can be compared to Islamists and Takfiris who boast criminal records."
On Hezbollah, the MP stressed that the party, which is leading Lebanon into the midst of the Syrian war while serving regional projects, will bring catastrophic repercussions to the country.
Al-Daher said that Lebanon is heading towards a complicated situation, pointing out that the solution cannot be reached by Lebanese factions, but by the party which is using the Lebanese scene to serve the interests of the Iranian and Syrian regimes, he said in reference to Hezbollah.
In this regard, the deputy held Hezbollah responsible for the latest security events, stressing that had the Shiite party abstained from interfering in the Syrian war and sending thousands of troops to fight against the Syrian people to support a dictatorship, “Lebanon would be living in peace.”
On Friday June 20, a suicide bomber blew himself up at a security checkpoint in Lebanon's Daher al-Baydar in the Eastern Bekaa Valley, leaving at least 1 person killed, an ISF member, and up to 32 wounded.
Similarly on Monday a suicide bomber also implemented a similar attack at night near an army checkpoint in southern Beirut’s Tayouneh region, killing himself and a security officer identified as Abdul Karim Hodroj, and wounding several people watching the FIFA World Cup game in a nearby cafe.
