MP Paula Yaacoubian said that the urgent legislation must come within two frameworks, the environmental one and the health one, adding that she has been working on passing laws rapidly.
“If the problem is that I am the one presenting these draft laws, let someone else adopt them,” she noted.
In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, MP Yaacoubian tackled the issue of accountability, pointing out that Lebanon’s situation in this regard is bad.
“However, despite the power octopus in the country, we have reached small results and the committees are working seriously and efficiently,” she explained.
She also stressed the importance of the judiciary’s role in the country.
On the issue of the waste crisis, Yaacoubian said that the political power is resorting to the incinerators without any monitoring or transparency, pointing out that the Council of Development and Reconstruction has drafted the rules and conditions and a clean contract, but when the comparison has been made, nothing was implemented.
“The solution lies in removing waste bins from the streets and in case the citizen fails to sort waste from his home, the garbage collectors have the right to refuse to take his waste and to fin said citizen,” she explained, adding that sorting from the source is an essential step and must be done on the basis of a law.
