Former Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon Ali Awad Assiri said that the media outlets in Lebanon released news about an assassination attempt against him in 2015, despite his efforts to keep the information contained.
During a session on “diplomacy and media” held within the framework of the Saudi Media Forum, Assiri explained that the target was not him personally but his country and its reputation, adding that any person serving as the kingdom’s ambassador will always be targeted by a faction that has affected Lebanon and its economy.
“Every political party in Lebanon receive instructions from parties outside Lebanon and we hope that the events taking place in Lebanon’s streets will have positive results,” he stated, hoping that Lebanon will be once again the prosper country everyone knew.
In 2015, Lebanese media outlets revealed that the security forces thwarted an assassination attempt targeting ambassador Assiri and two involved persons were arrested.
