Hariri after meeting Diab: Violation of constitution and prosecution of Prime Minister are unacceptable
Caretaker Prime Minister Hassan Diab met on Friday with Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri at the Grand Serail.
Following the meeting, Hariri said that his visit comes to express his categorical rejection of the clear and flagrant constitutional breach that the judge committed by charging the Prime Minister.
“The Constitution is clear in this regard; heads of governments appear only before a special court formed by the Parliament,” he added.
“We condemn, refuse and won’t accept the blackmailing of the Premiership. The families of the martyrs have the right to know the truth, to know who brought this ship and who covered it,” Harir went on by saying
He concluded however by stressing that “violating the constitution and prosecuting the Prime Minister is unacceptable.”
“I came to stand with the Prime Minister and show solidarity with him," he said.
Yesterday, Judicial investigator in the crime of the Beirut port explosion Judge Fadi Sawan pressed charges against Diab, former Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil, and former Ministers of Public Works Ghazi Zoaiter and Youssef Fenianos, for negligence and causing death and harm to hundreds of people.

For his part, Diab denied on Thursday any wrongdoing, saying that “his conscience was clear over the August 4 Beirut port blast.”

Diab said in a statement he was confident that his hands were clean and that he had dealt transparently with the file of the Beirut port explosion, adding that he was surprised to be targeted by the investigating judge.
