Al-Absi announces withdrawal from Sagesse club sponsorship

The financier of the Lebanese basketball club “Sagesse” Wadih al-Absi announced that the head of the club’s board of trustees Ziad Abs and him will stop funding the club and leave this task to the Lebanese Forces, stressing that he will not accept any political slogan.

In a press conference, al-Abssi announced that he resigned to preserve his credibility towards Sagesse fans, adding that when he first entered the club, he called for keeping sports away from politics; “I agreed on this with the administrative committee but then I was surprised to see that the head of the committee is committed to the Lebanese Forces.”

He added “they want the club to become a political platform for the upcoming elections.”

Al-Absi pointed out that engineer Ziad Abs fulfilled his duties; “we are thankful for him; he sacrificed his position to save the club.”
