Parliamentary subcommittee holds session at parliament

The parliamentary subcommittee tasked with discussing the electoral law convened on Wednesday at the Justice and Administration Hall at the parliament under the chairmanship of MP Robert Ghanem and in the presence of deputies.

Following the meeting, MP Robert Ghanem held a press conference whereby he said that the sub-committee has agreed upon a mechanism that can ensure correct Christian representation in the elections, stressing that MP Sami Gemayel submitted his suggestion to the committee in hopes that it would garner further study.

“The committee members will follow up efforts until the final moments,” he said, hoping that good intentions are maintained in order to find common grounds beneficiary to all members of Lebanese society.

For his part, Change and Reform bloc MP Alain Aoun criticized the talks, stating that there are intentions to mislead the public into approving a law that would leave the results unclear and cryptic.

Finally, Future Bloc MP Ahmad Fatfat said that the electoral draft presented yesterday is the “maximum compromise” that his bloc can make.
