The Israeli military said an airstrike killed a Hezbollah operative in southern Lebanon after he allegedly retrieved a drone that the army claimed posed a threat to its forces in the area.

In a post on X, Israeli army Arabic-language spokesperson Captain Ella Waweya said an Israeli Air Force drone had identified an unmanned aerial vehicle in southern Lebanon that was deemed a threat to Israeli troops operating in the area.

According to the statement, the drone later landed and a member of Hezbollah arrived to retrieve it, after which an Israeli aircraft carried out a strike that killed him.

The statement added that the Israeli Air Force continues to operate in support of Israeli forces in southern Lebanon.
