US pushed to keep Lebanon political talks on schedule despite Israeli attempts to delay them: Sources to LBCI

Lebanese officials carried out intensive contacts over the past hours to halt the Israeli escalation against Lebanon, sources told LBCI.

The sources said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu attempted to postpone the political negotiations, but the United States preferred for the talks to proceed on schedule and consulted Lebanon, which insisted on maintaining the negotiation date set for next June.

According to the sources, the contacts led by Baabda Palace to contain the escalation will be raised as a key issue during the upcoming security meeting at the Pentagon.

Regarding the ongoing US-Iran negotiations, Lebanon believes that any agreement that includes Lebanon could strengthen its position in demanding a ceasefire, the sources added. However, the report stressed that issues related to Lebanon’s territory, sovereignty, and prisoners remain an internal matter that Lebanon will negotiate on its own behalf.
