People kept sticking their gums on a wall in an alley in Seattle’s Pike Place Market for 20 years, until the authorities decided recently that “it is time for a clean-up.”
Known as “the Gum Wall”, the sticky landmark has become a popular attraction for visitors and locals, with an estimated one million pieces of gums stuck to wall.
Besides chewed gum people leave pictures, business cards and other mementos. Some pieces of gum have even been shaped into hearts and messages.
According to officials, steam will be used to melt off the gum since pressure washing will cause too much damage to the historic building.
