Eight migrants drown in Aegean Sea off the Turkish coast

Eight individuals drowned aboard a rubber boat in the Aegean Sea off the northwestern coast of Turkey, according to local authorities on Friday.

Authorities in the province of Çanakkale stated in a statement that "the bodies of eight individuals were found," noting that at least four others survived the boat sinking.

The authorities indicated that "the boat carrying irregular migrants capsized off the coasts of Gokceada in Turkish waters, approximately 50 kilometers from the Greek island of Lemnos.

Coast guard was dispatched to the scene to attempt the rescue of other migrants, as stated in the statement.
