Arrest warrant issued against Bechara Asmar

Sources told LBCI on Saturday that an arrest warrant was issued against General Confederation of Lebanese Workers head Bechara Asmar after his insulting comments about former Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Mar Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir.

 

The same sources added that the Central Criminal Investigation Department released three members of the confederation on bail and will interrogate two other members who were present with Asmar when he made his comments.

 

This as Minister of Justice Albert Serhan said on his Twitter account that he is following up on the Bechara Asmar case, adding that the latter was arrested and that investigations are ongoing with all those involved.

 

Earlier, ten trade unions announced that they suspended their membership to the General Confederation of Lebanese Workers.
 
On Friday, a video went viral on social media platforms showing Asmar mocking Sfeir before his televised press conference.

 

Asmar was not aware that the microphones were on and that a camera was filming him.
