On January 14, 2019, the Hamat Mountain, near the Chekka tunnel collapsed for the first time because of the heavy rains and landslides. Thousands of the Lebanese citizens suffered the traffic caused by the road conversions adopted at the time.

The collapse happened on the main highway connecting the north to Beirut and all other Lebanese governorates.

 

Nine months have passed since the collapse and nothing has changed, mainly with the fall season drawing near.

 

Right after the incident, the officials said that no work can be done before the soil dries up. Spring passed and now the summer is about to end and no work had been done.
