French Defense Minister: New Libyan leaders ‘owe’ France

French Defense Minister Gerard Longuet told Le Monde newspaper on Friday that France will seek a leading role in Libya, adding that Libya’s new leaders “owe Paris a lot”.

“The international coalition members will probably take more bilateral stances in their relations with Libya, and each member will try to benefit from the situation”.

Longuet added that Paris was an important partner in the military operation in Libya, using its allies, the European Union and the NATO, as means and not guardians.

The campaign will now be "phased out" in the coming "days or weeks", Longuet added.
