Maronite Patriarch Beshara Boutros Rai congratulated on Tuesday the newly elected deputies, wishing them success in assuming their responsibilities within the Parliament for the sake of Lebanon and the citizens who have placed their trust in them.
Rai stressed the need to open a new page of relations between all the blocs to rescue Lebanon and develop it at all levels, by playing their proper legislative, supervisory and political role in a climate of sound democratic dialogue, and passing the laws that preserve the rights and freedoms of citizens and put supreme national interest above all considerations.
He also said that “he is pleased to invite the new deputies to participate in the Mass to be celebrated for the sake of Lebanon at the Basilica of Our Lady of Lebanon in Harissa, on Sunday May 13 at 10:00 am, in the presence of Prefect of the Congregation for Eastern Churches, His Eminence Cardinal Leonardo Sandri.”
The Patriarch lauded the good performance of security apparatuses during the elections, despite some of the mishaps that have occurred, and under a new proportionality law applied for the first time in Lebanon.
“Lessons must be taken from this experiment which carried major indications," he added.
