REPORT: Patriarch Rai calls on conflicting sides to end Syrian war

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai called Sunday on conflicting sides in Syria to put an end to the ongoing war and seek dialogue in order to find fair solutions.

During the Sunday homily delivered from the cathedral of Saint Maroun in Zahle, Patriarch Rai called for revealing the whereabouts of the bishops kidnapped in Syria as well as all other detained citizens.

Following the mass, patriarch Rai held talks with the relatives of the Gregoire Noshiyan who was kidnapped on the 15th of July on the outskirts of northeastern Lebanese border town of Arsal.

The two Syrian bishops kidnapped by gunmen on Monday April 22nd are still missing, church sources in Damascus and Aleppo said last Wednesday, contradicting a report that the men had been freed.

Pope Francis urged the release of the two Aleppian bishops, 2 days after their disappearance. They have been identified as Greek Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo and Alexandria Boulos Yaziji, and Syriac Orthodox Metropolitan of Aleppo Yuhanna Ibrahim.
