US Obama, UK Cameron send letters to President Sleiman, voice support to Lebanon

    
President Michel Sleiman received on Saturday letters from a number of state officials and leaders, offering their congratulations on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Lebanon's independence.       

US President Barack Obama sent a letter to President Sleiman whereby he said that the Lebanese people were able to lay the foundations of prosperity, praising the Americans of a Lebanese descent for their numerous contributions.          

President Obama said cooperation is ongoing between the US army and the Lebanese Armed Forces, stressing that his country supports the Special Tribunal for Lebanon in a bid to penalize the perpetrators of political assassinations.          

Obama also vowed to urge the international community to provide Lebanon with all the needed help, enabling the country to deal with the Syrian refugee issue.          

For his part, British Prime Minister David Cameron sent a letter to Sleiman, praising the achievements made by Lebanon throughout the last seven decades, regardless of conflicts taking place in the Middle East.             

Cameron said he is aware of several obstacles Lebanon is still facing, noting that his country supports Sleiman in addressing those challenges.
