Patriarch Yazigi says Christians will not remain silent on abduction of Bishops, Maaloula nuns

The Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East John X Yazigi stressed on Tuesday that Christians will always stand against those who undermine sanctities, describing them as "peace ambassadors, not scapegoats".

"Christians will not remain silent on the abduction of Bishops Boulos Yazigi and John Ibrahim, the 12 Orthodox Christian nuns, as well as other innocent people," he added.

"The church will always be an ambassador of peace and love, " Patriarch Yazigi stressed.

On April 22, Bishops Boulos Yazigi of the Greek Orthodox Church and John Ibrahim of the Assyrian Orthodox Church were kidnapped while they were traveling outside the northern city of Aleppo.

The 12 nuns are believed to be held by hardline rebels, deepening concerns that extremists in the opposition's ranks are targeting Christians.

On the 6th of December, Al-Jazeera TV channel aired an exclusive video depicting the kidnapped nuns of Syria’s Maaloula monastery.

In the video, the nuns said that they are in good health, stressing that they left the monastery due to heavy shelling.

However their appearance without the traditional cross around their necks raised concern on the validity of their statements and their well-being.
