Patriarch Rai: Failure to elect new president is shameful, violates constitution
The Maronite Patriarch Beshara Boutros Rai said Wednesday that the failure to elect a new president is a violation of the Lebanese Constitution, stressing that such a situation is “categorically rejected and shameful.”

During the opening of the Synod of Bishops in Bkerke, Rai hoped that the deputies will elect a new president as soon as possible, calling on them to end any legislative work in accordance with the article 75 of the Constitution.

“Lebanon requires brave initiatives form the presidential candidates of March 8 and 14 camps, as well as from the union committees, since no one has the right to lead the country into complete paralysis,” he added.

On another note, Rai voiced support to the Pope’s call for peace, justice and ending war and violence in Syria and Iraq, in order for the refugees to return home.
