LF leader Geagea says Aoun is not suited to rule Lebanon
Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea reiterated on Thursday his rejection to elect the Free Patriotic Movement leader MP Michel Aoun as president, "even for a two year-term."

Geagea also called for holding the parliamentary elections on their due time in order to put an end to the political deadlock in the country.

“I don't believe that Aoun is suited to rule Lebanon, “he added.

Geagea’s comments were made to Deutsche Presse-Agentur (DPA) whereby he expressed readiness to hold dialogue over a “consensual candidate for the presidential elections,” accusing the other camp [March 8] of refusing to even search for an alternative to its candidate.

Aoun has not officially declared his candidacy for the presidency, but he has repeatedly said that he would run in the elections if there was consensus over him.

Hezbollah and Aoun's Change and Reform bloc have been boycotting the electoral sessions at parliament due to disputes with the March 14 camp over a compromise presidential candidate.

He also called for the speeding up of the trial of Islamist inmates held in the Roumieh prison and for a swap to be made in exchange for the release of the Lebanese troops abducted in the border town of Arsal.

The Islamist kidnappers had been demanding that Islamists held in Roumieh be released in return for the Lebanese soldiers and policemen.

The soldiers and policemen were abducted following clashes between the Lebanese army and Islamists in the town of Arsal in early August.

A few have since been released; two others were beheaded, while the rest are still being held by the gunmen.
