Following a meeting at Dar al-Fatwa's headquarters in Beirut, the council called for the removal of all illegitimate weapons from Lebanon, rejecting all attempts to lure Muslims into confrontations with the army.
The council also highlighted the role of the Lebanese army in defending residences, markets, and civilians in the country, dubbing suspicious "all incitement efforts aimed at persuading soldiers to defect from the army.”
“The law should be implemented throughout all Lebanese regions without exception,” it stated.
The council emphasized that clashes and confrontations in Tripoli are the result of years of deprivation, demanding that the state implement developmental plans to revitalize the economy in the city and the North.
Clashes erupted in Tripoli between the army and militants on Friday (October 24), leaving scores of soldiers, civilians, and gunmen dead.
On Monday (October 27), the military operation that was launched by the Lebanese army in the northern city of Tripoli ended following the withdrawal of gunmen; however, LAF units remained deployed in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh.
