Head of the private school teachers association Nehme Mahfoud said Thursday that Lebanon is under the rule of one party that serves its own interests, stressing that the association will not give up on its rights.
In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Mahfoud noted that after three years of struggle, the association will no longer fall victim to false promises and will continue its movements until the new pay scale is passed.
“Our movement regarding the academic year does not concern the official exams,” he explained, adding that the exams will be corrected in order to avoid the passing of higher school certificates without proper examination as per last year.
Mahfoud pointed out that the situation of the workers in Lebanon is both deplorable and intolerable, stating that foreign workers are negatively affecting the situation of the Lebanese people.
In this regard, Mahfoud urged the concerned syndicates and the General Labor Confederation (GLC) to find the appropriate solution for the matter at hand.
The Union Coordinating Committee has held continuous strikes, for over three years, calling on the authorities to pass the pay scale, which stipulates a wage hike. No concrete measures thus far been implemented.
With the rise of the influx of Syrian refugees and the already fragile economy, local employees are facing troubles finding work, since Lebanese employers have begun selecting Syrians over Lebanese since they are willing to work for lower salaries.
