Aoun to Mikati: you are covering for defaulters

Change and Reform bloc Leader MP Michel Aoun accused PM Najib Mikati on Tuesday of covering for defaulters, including the Cabinet's Secretary General Souheil Bouji, OGERO Telecom General Director Abdul Monem Youssef and the intelligence branch, stressing that Mikati is the sole person capable of ending these violations.

Aoun said, following his party’s weekly meeting, that Mikati’s recent speech was sectarian-based, adding that the Sunni sect is not being targeted but rather the misconduct of certain Sunnite figures.

The Change and Reform bloc leader also said: “whoever stalls or impedes the cabinet’s plans, the electricity bill in particular, is dealing a blow to the Lebanese state and its institutions”, stressing that Lebanon will be a state and not “a shareholding company.”

Aoun said that he had earlier congratulated the Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai on his position on the Middle East situation, stressing that his sympathy for Rai does not stem from personal motivations, rather for he considers his position clear and pragmatic.

On the developments in Syria, Aoun stressed that the country’s situation is gaining stability despite the escalating external pressure on the regime.
