Bassil: EDL employment mechanism will be adopted, all demands will be met

Energy Minister Gibran Bassil said that he met with a group of EDL contract workers on Tuesday, adding that over 400 persons resumed their work and signed contracts with companies; "this does not prevent them from being granted tenure”, he said. Bassil stressed that all those who pass the skills test will be granted tenure.             

Following the Change and Reform bloc meeting, Bassil said that the Judiciary has not proceeded to protect civil servants yet and the security forces have not protected EDL workers. Bassil added that the contract workers and collectors are being used for personal purposes.               

Bassil revealed that some of the employees he met with today refused that the meeting be videotaped, fearing threats.          

“All demands will be met, the law will be implemented, the employment mechanism will be adopted and work at the EDL will be resumed”, Bassil said.               

In conclusion, Bassil said that the residents of Ashrafieh and nearby regions are suffering a lot, calling on Beirut residents, EDL contract workers and employees to display self-restraint.
