Prime Minister Saad Hariri presided Thursday over a regular cabinet session at the Grand Serail.
At the beginning of the session, Hariri noted that passing the electricity plan has positively reflected on the financial and monetary markets, as well as on the trust of the investors in Lebanon’s economy, since it indicates the government’s seriousness in seeking to reduce the budget deficit and to fight corruption and public funds waste.
“The best decision we have taken in Lebanon is to take measures of austerity and steps to address the issue of deficit in the budget before the crisis breaks out,” he said, adding that other countries had to take harsher and more painful measures because they waited for the crisis to hit before starting the solution.
The PM stated that the situation in Lebanon remains reassuring as long as the necessary measures are taken, pointing out that this responsibility falls on the cabinet and the parliament and should be based on agreement between all the political forces represented in the government.
