MP Sethrida Geagea stressed Tuesday that the Lebanese Forces party has submitted a series of suggestions and steps to address the financial crisis, adding that some were taken into consideration while others were not due to political bidding on one hand and corruption on other hand.
In an intervention during the parliament session held to discuss the budget, Geagea said that they refuse to approve the budget in its current formula “because it is not satisfactory and the measures taken are not enough.”
“It also predicts the state’s inability to pay its dues, mainly the ones related to foreign currency, which can lead to a significant deterioration in the financial and monetary situations,” she explained.
MP Geagea declared that the Lebanese Forces party will abstain from voting in favor of the budget, despite supporting some of its items, stressing that the budget is way less than what is current needed for the country.
Addressing Speaker Nabih Berri, Geagea said that “it is undisputable that the electricity sector is the main cause behind the increase in the budget deficit over the past years,” adding that this sector is capable of make a difference on the financial and economic levels if managed properly.
