The Maronite Bishops said on Wednesday that the reforms cannot see the light unless all the parties work on ending the waste of public funds, corruption and closing the illegal crossing points to put an end to the cross border smuggling.
Following their monthly meeting under the chairmanship of Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai in Bkerke, the bishops welcomed the circular issued by the Central Bank concerning the loans in USD allocated to import fuel derivatives including gasoline, diesel and gas, in addition to wheat and pharmaceutical products, within rules determined in the circulars.
They hoped that this measure would alleviate the concerns and panic of the Lebanese people and pave the way before the government to reach a solution for the economic and financial crisis.
On another note, the bishops said that the government should meet the breakthroughs, mainly on the Syrian scene, which will facilitate the return of the Syrian refugees to their homeland, praising the speech of President Michel Aoun delivered at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
