Pope Francis confirmed on Monday during his meeting with President Micchel Aoun in the Vatican that Lebanon has a special place in his prayers and is at the center of his concerns, despite the tense international situation on multiple levels.

Pope also stated that “he was sadly aware of Lebanon’s tough economic and social conditions,” emphasizing that Lebanon, with all its sons, Christians and Muslims, must not renounce the values of authenticity.

“It is necessary to preserve Christian presence in the East, as well as the responsibility to maintain coexistence in Lebanon,” Francis pointed out.

He then that “he will soon visit Lebanon,” saying that Lebanon remains, despite everything, a model for the world.
