President Aoun commemorates Rashid Karami on 39th anniversary of his assassination

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun paid tribute to former Prime Minister Rashid Karami on the 39th anniversary of his assassination, describing him as one of Lebanon’s most dedicated and principled statesmen.

In a statement, Aoun said Karami represented a vision of Lebanon that transcended sectarian divisions and political interests, adding that he remained committed to national unity throughout his public life.

The president praised Karami’s unwavering positions during some of the country's most difficult periods, saying he resisted efforts to fuel division and remained focused on serving Lebanon.

Aoun also reflected on the absence of leaders of Karami’s caliber, particularly as Lebanon confronts ongoing challenges, including continued Israeli attacks.

He reaffirmed his commitment to honoring the legacy of Karami and all those who sacrificed for the country by continuing efforts to ease the suffering of the Lebanese people—especially in the south—and by pursuing state-building, reform, and justice.

“Today, more than ever, we remain committed to ending the hardships faced by the Lebanese people and to building a stronger state founded on reform and justice,” Aoun said.
