Axios: Rubio holds talks with Lebanese and Israeli leaders in push for new ceasefire initiative

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held separate conversations with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the past 48 hours as part of efforts to advance a new ceasefire initiative between Lebanon and Israel, according to a post by an Axios correspondent on X.

The report said the United States has proposed that Hezbollah halt all attacks against Israel as an initial step toward de-escalation.

In return, Israel would refrain from escalating its military operations in Lebanon, according to a U.S. official cited by the Axios correspondent.

The report added that Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said he could guarantee Hezbollah’s adherence to a ceasefire, but maintained that Israel must be the first side to halt its attacks.
