France to request emergency UN Security Council meeting over escalation in Lebanon, FM says

Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji said his French counterpart Jean-Noël Barrot informed him that France will request an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council in light of the ongoing Israeli escalation in Lebanon, the expansion of military operations, and evacuation orders.

In a post on X, Rajji said Barrot reiterated France’s solidarity with Lebanon and its firm commitment to respecting its full sovereignty. He also reaffirmed Paris’ support for direct negotiations as the only path toward a lasting and sustainable solution to the crisis.

Rajji added that he thanked France for the initiative and for its continued support for Lebanon.
