France condemns attack on UNIFIL peacekeepers, calls for full investigation

France expressed its deepest condolences to Serbia and to the family of the Serbian peacekeeper who was killed while serving with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) on June 4, 2026.

In a statement, France also wished a speedy recovery to two other UNIFIL peacekeepers who were wounded in the same attack.

The French government noted that since the outbreak of hostilities on March 2, seven UNIFIL peacekeepers have been killed in South Lebanon while carrying out their peacekeeping duties. France called for a thorough investigation into the incidents and urged that those responsible be identified, arrested, and brought to justice.

France further urged all parties to respect United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 and to refrain under all circumstances from endangering the safety and security of United Nations personnel.

The statement also called on all parties involved in the conflict to abide by the terms of the ceasefire agreement reached on June 3 in Washington between the legitimate representatives of the Lebanese and Israeli governments.
