US Treasury Secretary: China will do its best to reopen Strait of Hormuz

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Thursday that China would benefit from the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and expressed his belief that Beijing would do everything in its power to ensure the waterway is opened.

“I think they will do everything they can… it is very much in China’s interest to open the strait, and I believe they will work behind the scenes with any party that has influence over the Iranian leadership,” he told CNBC.

Bessent made the remarks from Beijing, where he is accompanying President Donald Trump on a visit to China.
