Since 1978, the Lebanese State has had the intention to build a power generating plant in the region of Hamat – Selaata, and for this plan, lands were acquired by the state according to a decree in order to build the plant.
Years have passed and the plant did not see the light, allowing the land owners to reclaim their estates in 2010, in accordance with the law.
Talks about building power plants in Selaata resurfaced recently, since the electricity plan presented by Energy Minister Nada al-Boustany includes the establishment of two plants in the region, triggering debates over land acquisitions.
