Heavy snow blankets parts of US State of Texas

Icy weather brought snow and sleet to parts of West Texas in the US on Saturday.

The US National Weather Service had issued a winter storm warning for the region as forecasts called for 4 to 6 inches (10 to 15 centimeters) of snow to fall this weekend, a rare event for a part of the US known for warm weather year-round.

In Odessa, about 350 miles (563 kilometers) west of Dallas, residents spent Saturday digging out from the few inches (centimeters) of snow that blanketed the area.

In Amarillo, local television stations reported snow and ice accumulated on roads and bridges, causing several traffic accidents.
