EU chief says new US tariffs are 'major blow to world economy'

U.S. President Donald Trump's sweeping new tariffs are a "major blow to the world economy," EU chief Ursula von der Leyen warned Thursday, as she vowed Brussels was "prepared to respond."

"We are now preparing for further countermeasures to protect our interests and our businesses if negotiations fail," von der Leyen said. But, she added, "It is not too late to address concerns through negotiations."
