The ISF obtained information stating that two people were smuggling narcotics in Tahwitat al-Ghadir in Beirut's southern suburb.
Police eventually began searching for the suspects and spotted them riding on a motorbike around the suburb.
An exchange of fire erupted when one of the suspects opened gunfire from his pistol at the police after the latter ordered them to stop.
The ISF managed to arrest one of the suspects, identified as Lebanese M.M., while his accomplice, Q.Z., was able to flee to an unknown destination.
A gun and a kitchen knife found in the possession of the detainee were seized in addition to 132 small packets of drugs that included hashish, salivia and narcotic pills.
The arrested man, who had 10 warrants issued against him, was referred to the competent judiciary for further investigation, while police continue to exert efforts to detain his accomplice.
