REPORT: Palestinian nationals in Lebanon celebrate UN statehood vote

On Thursday night, Palestine was officially recognized by the UN as a State; in a historical vote held at the General Assembly resulting in 138 votes with the recognition, 9 against and 41 abstentions.

Following the declaration of the results, the Palestinian nationals in Lebanon celebrated all night long, staging marches in the South’s camps, mainly in Ain al-Helweh where they fired gunshots in the air in celebration, and raised photos of the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and late Yasser Arafat.

Youth groups toured the camps and distributed sweets while loudspeakers played Palestinian anthems.
