Rai: We pray for stability in Lebanon, peace in Syria, Egypt, Iraq

Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai declared on Sunday that “the countries of the Middle East are torn by political conflicts and wars where innocent people are killed and millions of families are displaced, adding that Islamic fundamentalist groups that are distorting the image of Islam are increasing with the help of foreign states seeking political and economic benefits.”

During a mass held at Saint Maroun Church in Rome, Rai called on the Christians to “turn the lies into truths, the conflicts and hatred into reconciliation and agreement, the wars and violence into peace and fraternity, extremism into forgiveness and justice.”

“We are praying for political and security stability in Lebanon, and peace in Syria, Egypt and Iraq,” Rai said.
