REPORT: Geagea: Hezbollah's intervention in Syria is behind Lebanon's “Iraqization”

Lebanese Forces Chief Samir Geagea said on Monday some parties mentioned that a certain Lebanese group is seeking the extraction of oil off the Lebanese shores while another is halting the success of this operation; however, "these allegations are false since the extraction of oil will improve the financial and economic situation of Lebanon."

During a press conference held at his residence in Mehrab, Geagea noted that the Lebanese Forces are against holding any ministerial meeting to discuss the oil dossier, since his party is looking for "clean hands" to task them with the assessment of this file.

On another note, Geagea stated that it's the first time the Lebanese state reveals evidence related to Tripoli's twin blasts, adding that the Internal Security Forces Information Branch along with the Lebanese Armed Forces Intelligence Bureau played an important role in revealing this information.

Geagea mentioned that judicial authorities followed up on investigations related to the mentioned blasts, calling on all officials to laud the efforts of the security apparatuses intelligence units while providing support to the Lebanese judiciary so it may proceed with its work.

In response to the latest speech delivered by the Secretary General of Hezbollah Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, Geagea said that "Nasrallah tackled the nature of the Syrian conflict in a bid to convince the Lebanese people that the Syrian regime is working for the benefit of the Syrians and is defending the Syrian state from any foreign attack."

"The Syrian regime is doing the total opposite," Geagea said, citing the torture of children early throughout the Syrian revolution as a reminder.

Geagea also mentioned that "Hezbollah's intervention in the Syrian crisis is leading towards the “Iraqization” of Lebanon, adding that "Hezbollah is an illegal party, and the issue of 'the Resistance' is neither stated in the Lebanese constitution nor in the national pact."

Geagea concluded by saying that "what is referred to by Hezbollah's Nasrallah as "Resistance" is an armed organization whose main aim is having a blocking third in any cabinet formed."
