SNC accuses Syrian regime and its allies of assassinating Chatah

The Syrian National Council accused Saturday the regime of President Bashar Assad and its allies Iran and Hezbollah, of being behind the explosion that targeted the Lebanese capital Beirut and claimed the life of former minister Mohamad Chatah and six others.

In a statement issued by the council, the Syria opposition said that the Syrians received, with shock and anger, the news of the assassination of the Lebanese prominent figure, the former minister Mohamad Chatah in a cowardly criminal act in central Beirut.

“Those who killed Chatah are the same one who killed, and are killing the Syrians in Qusair, Qalamoun, al-Ghouta, Aleppo, Homs and Idlib. They are, without doubt, the alliance of the Syrian regime and Iran along with their agents in Lebanon, mainly the militant group Hezbollah,” the statement added. An explosion rocked the Lebanese capital Beirut on Friday, December 27, targeting the convoy of former minister Mohammad Chatah.

Sources at the explosion site said Chatah was on his way to attend a meeting at Beit al-Wasat when the explosion occurred.

The explosion in Beirut's Starco claimed the lives of 7 persons, including former minister Chatah, and injured 71 others.
