President Michel Aoun informed the UN Special Coordinator in Lebanon Sigrid Kaag that Lebanon “is completely committed to the implementation of UN resolution 1701, since it realizes the grave risks of violating the resolution.”
Aoun stressed that Israel continues to breach the Lebanese airspace and occupy Lebanese territories while carrying out aggressive practices that form a blatant violation to the international resolution.
The president added that the cabinet decided to request a one-year extension for the international forces working in the south (UNIFIL), stressing the importance of enhancing coordination between the Lebanese Armed Forces and UNIFIL by promoting the capabilities of the army and its presence in South Lebanon and the regional waters.
Aoun emphasized the importance of the support provided by United Nations and the International Community to the Lebanese army in its fight against terror, stating that achieving key measures will restore security and stability along the Lebanese-Syrian borders.
