Rai from Cleveland: Lebanon's external allegiances a national epidemic

Maronite Patriarch Beshara Rai said Tuesday that “Lebanon is plagued by a national epidemic of allegiances to countries outside of Lebanon.”

Rai addressed the U.S. and other countries during a dinner held in his honor, saying “Lebanon is the doorway to real democracy in the east.”

The patriarch voiced hope that “moderate people will rise to power should the international community seek to help the Arab world steer clear of civil wars and violence and reach peace.”

Upon his arrival to Cleveland, Rai celebrated Mass in Saint Maron church.

It was reported that Kataeb party Leader Amin Gemayel called the patriarch to reiterate support for his activities in the U.S.

Rai will go to Houston on Wednesday where he is expected to spend three days.
