Charbel: New electoral law stems from essence of Taif

Interior Minister Marwan Charbel said on Wednesday that “the new electoral law stems from the essence of the Taif agreement and the content of the ministerial statement,” stressing that approving this law rests with the cabinet and parliament.

“The Taif explicitly stipulated that elections should take place on the grounds of districts, after reconsidering administrative division based on the unity of land, people and institutions. The Taif agreement takes into account the rules that ensure coexistence between Lebanese and equal political representation,” he added.
