Lebanon says trilateral talks deliver ‘tangible progress’ in Washington negotiations

Lebanon’s negotiating delegation said that trilateral talks involving Lebanon, the United States, and Israel have achieved tangible diplomatic progress in Lebanon’s favor, as discussions continue over a framework for a broader settlement and future stability.

The delegation said the United States will facilitate military communication and coordination between Lebanon and Israel through a security mechanism set to be launched on May 29.

It added that the parties have agreed to review progress achieved with the aim of extending the ceasefire again if the negotiating tracks produce positive results.

According to the delegation, the developments include the extension of the ceasefire and the launch of a security track, which it said provides necessary breathing space for citizens, strengthens state institutions, and opens a political path toward lasting stability.

It reaffirmed Lebanon’s commitment to reaching an agreement that fully restores national sovereignty and ensures the safety and return of all citizens, with the goal of turning the current ceasefire momentum into a comprehensive settlement.

The delegation stressed that Lebanon’s top priority remains the full restoration of state authority over all territory, along with border protection, sovereignty safeguards, and the security of citizens.

It also said Lebanon is committed to ensuring the safe and dignified return of displaced residents to the south, supported by economic assistance and reconstruction efforts.

The delegation called for the return of all Lebanese detainees and the recovery of remains, while insisting on a phased and verifiable implementation mechanism to ensure compliance with all obligations without undermining sovereignty.

It added that Lebanon is negotiating for a future in which its borders are respected and its sovereignty upheld exclusively through the Lebanese army, with the aim of ensuring lasting peace and security for its population.
